Week 5 2020 Review - A Start To A Start

Since last week, the number of contributors other than myself published on Qntra in recent memory increased from zero to three. I greatly appreciate the work done by those rallying to Make Qntra Great Again. On my part, I'm not counting this as a whole start for me as only one new byline was added to the database, but it is a start to a start for me. I've still got to push harder on the outreach until it's become something easy that I want to do, and then I've got to keep pushing it.

Sunday

Sunday's order of the day was putting together a single page as an onramp to assist potential Qntra contributors contribute.

One article, by myself, published to Qntra.

Monday

Discussion around the first edition of the "Write for Qntra!" page revealed substantial room for improvement. I had err'd in targeting the text too much for myself and in doing so glossed over aspect including why encryption and signatures are good to focus on the sort of excess markup I've not enjoyed editing in the past. This current version was scored substantially better.

Two articles, one by myself and another by shinohai are published. I had nearly forgotten what a joy it can be to edit his text and how good of a sport he is about seeing his words trimmed to expose the sharpest cutting surfaces.

Tuesday

Three articles, two by shinohai and one by myself published. Editing to sharpen the work of others continues to be a pleasure.

With a servicable onramp page present and visibly linked from the top and sidebar, spreading via blog comments begins. This started with some friendly knocks fishing for opportunites to build rapport.

Wednesday

Three articles published. Two tight, surprise, pieces submitted by asciilifeform and not requiring much editing on my part. One piece by myself published.

Consulted a bit with thimbronion about putting together an interesting Qntra piece. Did a bit more knocking, noticed a lot of "blogs" I've found in my crawling... don't have comments. Some of these even appear to be collaborative efforts where folks work together to assemble what are essentially print publication that accidentally happen to be online. This is influencing the way I'm reading new blogs. No point reading out of WoT pieces looking for a polite hook into the conversation when the publisher clearly doesn't want conversations on their work.

Thursday

Three pieces published. Two by shinohai, one by myself. Venezuelano living in Uruguay makes it on IRC and registers a key. He's got questions waiting for his return.

The slow pace a friendly knocking lead to the start of less friendly confronting blogs proclaiming Bitcoin with links to relevant Qntra. On this front, Qntra's deep archive and history should lend some weight to the outreach push.

Friday

Three Qntra pieces. One by shinohai, another by thimbronion, and one by myself. Weekly Spanish class in the afternoon continued work on my orthography and pronunciation. Some more knocking was done.

Saturday

Two Qntra pieces, both by myself. One on what seems like internal Pantsuit drama could be interesting to link to in the future... if Trump has allies inside the US DOJ. Assembly of this review started.

Reflections for the next Week

Keeping a tally of the knocks will be useful for quantifying the spread of the Qntra word. It also seems prudent to finally move Qntra itself off the lifeboat as a courtesy to the other lifeboat occupants. With the move out of a defensive posture and into an offensive push for greater circulation, the clocks started ticking on when the next set of derps on the wrong side of the news take issue with Qntra. Setting up on a different server should take no more than a couple hours of my active attention. More attention hours however are likely to be spent getting an AWStats setup to see what efforts are actually delivering circulation.

Nice to see a day-by-day, and to see it through this introspective/reflective window. I dunno if your own writing and/or editing of contributors warrants a clocker (because you're capable and comfortable there), but I suspect your outreach efforts very much do. If you can compare weeks for time invested searching/scripting/crafting high-level comments/crafting low-level comments vs return, it'll help you make slicingly efficient decisions --not to mention you'll have something of quantifiable substance to hold yourself against.

    Here's to week 6!

Thank you. Reviewing the production of the review, time spent the daily breakdown of Qntra output was a bit of friction that does seem like it can be safely sanded. The outreach definitely could use a greater degree of measurement.

It's still a pleasure to read bb prose. Both well researched and well written...
