Most times I mention services on this blog is is because of their high likelihood of being scams. I do this to help illustrate some of the warning signs to look out for in other ventures as much as to specifically point out scams. There is a service I've used recently which is new to Bitcoin and doesn't seem to be a scam.1 It is a shame that this point actually kind of seems almost newsworthy.
Recently Overstock.com announced they were accepting Bitcoin. Bravely I decided to test this new Bitcoin service out on Thursday setting up an small order and seeing if they would deliver it. They indeed delivered. As may be seen below.
Sorry, the painting of Kim Jung Il's heart attack on a train isn't available on Overstock.com
The watch arrived this morning.
Now I have my doubts about consumer uses like this being more than a small part of the Bitcoin ecosystem as it continues to develop. The function as a store of value seems like it is going to continue to dominate Bitcoin. It is nice see a new Bitcoin venture though that can deliver a product on time and in a span of day, especially considering how many mining hardware companies are delivering late on orders scheduled months in advance.
- Note that though is doesn't seem to be a scam now doesn't mean it cannot or will not become a scam in the future. [↩]
